Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms, and the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
